The Cuban Commission for Human Rights and National Reconciliation reports the detention of dissident leader JOSE DANIEL FERRER GARCIA today, Thursday, August 23, 2012, at about 6 a.m.

The secret political police of the Castro regime assaulted his home at a time when his family was still asleep, and all working means, documents and other belongings of Ferrer Garcia and his family were commandeered.

Jose Daniel Ferrer is a former prisoner of conscience, released under the so-called “Extra Penitentiary Permit”, a sort of Damocletian Sword whereby he could be sent back to prison at any time just by police decision, without having to resort to any court.

The Commission calls for urgent actions to demand the release of this peaceful and respected Cuban dissident, whose home has been assaulted at least once more a few months ago, and who has been the target of true human hunts as soon as he has tried to travel within his province or to other areas of the country.

We initiate this Urgent Action in the belief that JOSE DANIEL FERRER will remain incommunicado for many days and subjected to a cruel and degrading treatment during his police internment, without any access to lawyers, telephone communication or any contact with his family at least during the early days or weeks of his arrest. We do not exclude that the government of the Castro brothers will take the decision to send him back to prison, in the vast jail system established in the Island.
