This Sunday 16 August repression continued unabated. Beatings, arrests, insults and acts of repudiation against the Ladies in White and the activists supporting them in their claim for the release of all political prisoners and the cessation of all acts of repression against peaceful human rights activists.
We were carrying signs today reading “No More Repression” and pictures of political prisoners.
After attending mass, marching and holding their meeting at Gandhi’s Park, the Ladies in White and their supporters proceeded to 3rd Avenue to take a bus. Once again the Rapid Response Brigades, State Security in plainclothes and police in uniform charged against us beating, insulting, handcuffing… We were pushed into buses, patrol cars, paddy wagons and private cars. The villains who were brought to excoriate us were almost a thousand. The women were taken to Tarara and the men to jail. We were released at 5 pm.
