According to Miami Actualidad, “The private start-up Mundo Avansys created by two young entrepreneurs, Vianny Cardoso and Dione Ramos, is a workshop which combines technical services and wi-fi cafe. The company is located near the Cathedral of Havana, one block from Hotel Florida, on O’Reill and 215. Patrons wishing to repair their phone or laptop or load the latest apps, offline, can simply leave their device in the shop and go upstairs to enjoy drinks and tapas.”
The article continues, “Avansys entrepreneurs would be the first in Cuba to make available to its customers a free wi-fi in similar fashion to restaurant chains and coffee shops such as McDonalds or Starbucks. Though it does not connect them to the Internet, because the sole state owned Cuban Telecommunications company does not authorize this service, it does allow them to access an intranet version of social networking: World Avansys installed on a cloud which can post photos, host chats, and download applications or listen to music.”
According to one of the Cuban tech entrepreneurs the “next step is to put the social network on the web, so that all the activities of the parties have a real presence on the Internet. ‘We consider ourselves a world apart. (…) World Avansys, which is much more than a wi-fi hub, much more than a workshop and more than a bar, it is an entire business model aimed at a form of thinking, acting, and developing.'”
