MIAMI – The Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba (FHRC) is pleased to inform that this afternoon, Friday, October 2, a Resolution has been presented in the United States House of Representatives demanding from the Cuban government the immediate and unconditional release of Silverio Portal Contreras and demanding that he be given urgent medical attention.

The Resolution – which from the beginning has the support of 18 members of Congress, including four members of the Congressional Black Caucus – also condemns the imprisonment of Cuban dissidents and calls for the release of all those who have been arbitrarily detained for their defense of human rights and democracy.

Last but not least, the Resolution (which’s official title is “Calling for the release of Cuban political prisoner Silverio Portal Contreras”) calls upon the Cuban Government to eliminate all restrictions that impose limitations on the exercise of freedom of expression and association in Cuba.

We now reproduce the text of the Resolution in English.
