FHRC WELCOMES JOSÉ DANIEL FERRER AND DEMANDS THE RELEASE OF ALL POLITICAL PRISONERS IN CUBA
Miami, Florida — The Foundation for Human Rights in Cuba (FHRC) receives with deep emotion and unwavering democratic commitment the arrival in the United States of José Daniel Ferrer, a historic leader of Cuba’s pro-democracy movement, former political prisoner, and undeniable symbol of civic resistance against the dictatorship.
After years of arbitrary imprisonment, torture, isolation, and constant threats to his life, Ferrer was forced into exile alongside his family. His departure from Cuba represents not only the end of personal torment, but the beginning of a new phase of international advocacy for the freedom of the Cuban people.
For more than two decades, Ferrer has been one of the most steadfast and incorruptible voices of civic activism, leading the Patriotic Union of Cuba (UNPACU) and defending human rights in the face of the regime’s brutal repression. He never abandoned his principles, nor accepted the silence imposed by tyranny. The FHRC recognizes in Ferrer not only a persecuted dissident, but a moral reference whose voice—now from exile—will continue to illuminate the struggle of those who remain on the Island.
“José Daniel Ferrer embodies the courage of a nation that refuses to surrender,” stated the FHRC. “His exile is not silence—it is an amplifier. Our mission continues: justice, truth, and freedom for Cuba.”
In accordance with the words of Secretary Marco Rubio, the FHRC acknowledges the firm commitment of the Trump Administration to the cause of freedom for the Cuban people in the face of tyranny. We join in that call for the immediate release of the more than 700 political prisoners and urge the international community to act responsibly in confronting the regime’s abuses and malignant influence throughout the region.
The arrival of Ferrer must become a turning point: neither banishment nor imprisonment will halt the struggle of the Cuban people. The FHRC reaffirms its commitment to accompany his voice and that of all those who continue to resist within the Island.
