The Foundation for Rights in Cuba congratulates Rosa María Payá on her nomination to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) during the OAS elections on June 27, 2025, in Antigua and Barbuda.
Rosa María Payá is a prominent democracy advocate and human rights leader with international recognition. As Executive Director of the Foundation for Pan-American Democracy, she promotes regional security and democratic stability.
As the founder of Cuba Decide, she leads the pro-democracy movement in Cuba, uniting civil society and opposition groups for a binding plebiscite. The daughter of the late Oswaldo Payá, she continues his legacy of fighting for freedom. Her accolades include the Morris Abram Human Rights Award (2019) and the Common-Sense Society Courage Award (2022).
The independent IACHR promotes human rights in OAS member states, improving thousands of lives through reports and recommendations.
The Foundation reaffirms its support for the IACHR and its commitment to the Commission’s independence, recognizing that its autonomy is essential for human rights defense in the region.
